Equipment Conforming to EU Directives (PED, ATEX, LVD, MD, etc.)
In the context of devices and machines, European Union directives are legal acts of the European Union, implemented by relevant ordinances of the Minister of Economy. Member states are under an obligation to implement specific legal regulations aimed at achieving a desirable effect indicated in a given directive (which is very often defined as a particular level of quality and safety). The scope of application of a particular directive (that is whether a given device is subject to that directive or not) is determined on the basis of an analysis of a design (a risk analysis).
The directives typically applicable to the production of our devices include:
- 2006/42/EC – the Machinery Directive
- 97/23/EC – the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)
- 94/9/EC – the ATEX directive (on equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres)
- 2006/95/EC – the Low Voltage Directive (LVD)
Equipment conforming to Directive 97/23/EC (PED)
KATES POLSKA Sp. z o.o. applies a recognized technology of the production of pressure devices and equipment. Our Company boasts long-standing experience as well as engineering and technological facilities permitting the production of any pressure devices.

Equipment conforming to Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX)
In 2005, as the first company in the Polish market, KATES POLSKA Sp. z o.o. commenced the production of tank devices for the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, compliant with the essential safety requirements set out in Directive 94/9/EC, assisted by the UDT CERT notified body.
The scope of our activity covers designing, producing and fitting out devices and lines with the necessary non-electrical and electrical accessories as well as monitoring and control systems for potentially explosive zones.
The devices we produce are intended for use in atmospheres containing dusts and gases, equipment group II, categories 1, 2, 3, temperature classes T1-T6.
Devices falling into categories 1, 2 (zones 0, 20, 1, 21) are additionally subject to the process of certification/examination of type during which the device documentation is examined as regards its conformity with the ATEX Directive essential requirements, and the device itself is examined as regards its conformity with its documentation and the requirements of the Directive and harmonized standards.
During the examination, a full scope of tests are conducted on a device operating at its maximum parameters, in order to rule out any possibility of an occurrence of an ignition source.

| Following a successful certification (type examination) process, the CE or Ex mark is affixed to the product. | oraz |
Furthermore, an unique conformity certificate number is entered in the device data plate as well as the declaration of conformity.
Example marking of a non-electrical device:
| 1433 | II 2G c IIC T3 UDT 07 ATEX 11082-01 X |
|
where: II - second zone (daytime use) 2 - device category 1 for zones 0, 20, 1, 2, 21, 22 2 for zones 1, 2, 21, 22 3 for zones 2, 22 G - type of atmosphere (explosive atmosphere) G - gas D - dust c - type of protection against ignition (design safety) IIC - explosion group (gap width limit) A: d>0.9mm B: 0.9mm>d>0.5mm C: 0.5mm>d |
T3 - temperature class (temperature limit) T1: max 450°C T2: max 300°C T3: max 200°C T4: max 135°C T5: max 100°C T6: max 85°C UDT 07 - notified body number ATEX 11082-01 - certificate number X - special working conditions (Devices and systems feeding a reactor with heating media should be produced in conformity with the requirements of the Directive and the manufacturer guidelines, as well as provided with appropriate marking) |
In the case of devices which are subject to a few directives, for the relevant modules, KATES Polska Sp. z o.o. conducts a full evaluation of conformity with participation of a third party.
