Emulsion and Suspension Forming

Emulsions and suspensions require agitators of high speed and strong shearing force.
Both conditions are satisfied by a homogenizing agitator. Thanks to the large number of homogenizing turbine types and variants, Kates may select the most suitable design for a specific suspension or emulsion.

Apart from homogenizing agitators, for certain types of suspension simpler agitators may be used, such as high-speed disks or turbine agitators with fixed shields. There is a great number of possible designs so, based on its expertise, Kates selects optimal solutions for an individual end-user’s needs and, where possible, determines the so-called point of inversion in a particular mixer. The forming of a suspension does not mean that a uniform concentration of solid particles throughout the mixer has been achieved. That is why, for more complex cases, Kates conducts a test to confirm the required technological effect.

For an emulsion, the state of dynamic equilibrium stabilizes when throughout the volume of a two-phase system there is a stable distribution of the dispersed phase and the continuous phase. The forming of a suspension is a more difficult process and requires precise determination of the properties of both ingredients for the correct choice of mixing parameters.
